One of the primary purposes of PTA is to advocate for the welfare of all children, and TRMS PTA takes this responsibility very seriously. Our legislative chairperson regularly attends local school board community meetings, PTA legislative conferences, state legislative meetings and conferences on educational issues, and keeps the TRMS community informed of pertinent issues.
Additionally, it is our responsibility as parents to keep informed of legislation, both at the state and federal level, which will affect our children and their education. You can keep up-to-date on statewide issues via Capitol Watch through the Georgia PTA website,
www.georgiapta.org. Capitol Watch tracks bills, budget proposals, and state department agendas concerning children and education. On the federal level, National PTA also offers information regarding current legislative issues. This can be accessed by going to the National PTA website at
www.pta.org and signing up for the This Week in Washington e-newsletter.
Georgia PTA sponsors an annual PTA DAY at the Capitol each February, and all PTA members are invited to attend. PTA members from across the state will meet with legislators to discuss issues related to children and education.
